Is seroquel worth the side effects if taking for anxiety/depression disorder? Hi, i have had extreme anxiety problems and attacks for over a year now, and i have never tried the medication route out a fear, but recent events have forced me into action, so i need to at least get some freash feed back on this drug, please, just right your comments on how it helped you, how u took it, maybe even how it didnt help you, how it made you feel, how sever the side effects actually were and which ones were the worst. thank you everybody for your feed back on Seroquel, the internet seems to hate it in general so it scares me to take it, i just want to get some more direct feed back. thanks again

C-digs replied: "The worst side effect of seroquel is drowsiness. As you adjust to your dose the drowsiness will dissipate. Also as you start out, the lower doses os seroquel hit the histamine receptors. As your dosage increases it will work better as a mood stabilizer. I started on 12.5mg at night for my anxiety and found that it did reduce my overall anxiety throughout the day. I was eventually increased to 75mg at night but it was done rather slowly. Good luck :)"

Jack replied: "Hello, I work at a mental health facility for boys 7-17 with behavorial and mental problems. I know when I have passed meds before a lot of our boys are on Seroquel. I'm not a nurse but I have yet to hear any complaints yet. People don't realize how important mental health is! If you need a medication be sure to get help. Their are a lot of medications out there for you if the one prescribed doesn't work. I have been taking Zoloft for depression for 15 years and it has worked wonders for me. Without it, I'm a mess! Without it, I'm very obsessive and can't control my depressive patterns of thinking. Good Luck!"

Filling out form - depression/anxiety a medical condition? Underneath it has Medication and dosage. I take lexapro and seroquel which i have put in, but does that mean i need to disclose the depression/anxiety as a medical condition?

tattoojunkie replied: "yes u have to and because it is"

Lucifer H replied: "yes"

guinnessman2007 replied: "Just what type of form are you filling out? If it just says meds and dosage just disclose those two. If it doesn't specifically ask if you have any medical conditions then there is no need to list them. [Edit] You're asking about complex math problems and you cannot figure out a form. Woe to you my friend."

Sandi replied: "Yes. It is not that they want to discriminate against you but need to know these things for various reasons. Example: At our work we were trialing an apprentice and in the job description he needed to learn to use power tools and potentially dangerous machinery as well as working sometimes at heights. He did not tell us for a couple of weeks that he suffered from epilepsy. He was on medication but couldn't guarantee that his illness would not endanger him in this kind of work. We had to let him go for his own safety and also for the company's insurance etc."

stacymorris07 replied: "What are you filling the form out for? Lexapro and Seroquel are used for more than just depression. If you are filling out the forms for something other than a doctor's office then you do have the right to keep your medical history private. However, if you are filling out the forms for insurance purposes or a doctor's office then it is always best to let them know your history. I hope this helps you and goodluck."

MadDog replied: "I'd fill it in, even though it sucks."

If a person is on both Paxil and Seroquel can they quit the Paxil and stay on Seroquel? Paxil is for depression and anxiety and Seroquel also works for depression but I don't know why the doctor gave me both. Can I quit Paxil and just take the Seroquel? I want to stop taking Paxil because of the sexual side effects. Why do I need 2 depression meds anyway when one can do the job?

woman 2 replied: "don't you think this is an issue to be directed at your doctor??? why ask a bunch of random strangers?"

gotta luv da Li replied: "Both have sexual side effects, and Seroquel may be a bigger problem. At low doses (up to 100mg), Seroquel primarily is an antianxiety and sleep med. Then it is a strong antimanic with some anti-depressant effect. It's main purpose is as an antispychotic at high doses. Paxil is your main antidepressant. Unless you are taking 200mg+ of Seroquel, you may be dropping the wrong med. See a psychiatrist if your are not already. There are other meds. For example, Lamictal is a mood stabilizer with a strong antidepressant effect. It is close to side effect free for many. It's not good with anxiety, though."

Medication for psychotic depression/anxiety? What medication could be prescribed for severe depression with psychotic features and anxiety? Would Lexipro and Seroquel be a realistic combination? (Writing a story...) Thanks! Can one suffer from severe depression, have a brief psychotic episode, and, with proper treatment, have the hallucinations/delusions "go away", or at least, subside for the time being, yet still have symptoms of major depression after the psychotic symptoms are treated?

hermitofnorthdome replied: "i have major depression/anxiety/panic disorder and i take zoloft for depression and hydroxine for the anxiety/panic attacks"

Kyle J replied: "For the anxiety a commonly prescribed Medication in Colanpin as far as psychosis goes there are all sorts of combinations anything from Haldol a first generation antipshychotic to Abilify which is a second generation Anitpshychotic/Mood Stabilizer."

Kati O replied: "When I was going through a long psychotic/depressive episode I was put on Geodon and Lexapro, and it actually helped a lot. Geodon is an anti-psychotic medication but it's also used for manic depression."

brokeu91 replied: "According to the literature, if you're going to go with the medication route with psychotic depression you need an antidepressant (Lexapro) and an antipsycotic (Seroquel), which would be reasonable. That being said, any, many people with psychotic depression get ECT. In fact ECT is the treatment of choice for depression with psychosis."

gmonte33 replied: "Like brokeu91 said ECT is still the most effective treatment for Major Depression with psychotic or catatonic features. It provides a rapid relief of symptoms. People with this type of depression are at a particularly high risk of suicide or life-threatening dehydration/starvation so a rapid response is often required. Otherwise the antidepressant/antipsychotic combination can be helpful. Lexapro is an antidepressant but it is also used for anxiety disorders. Seroquel would help treat the psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations. Some studies have shown that an SSRI alone may be just as effective for psychotic depression as the AD/AP combo. There are other studies that have shown that RU-486 (the "abortion pill") is very effective in psychotic depression and patients experienced a rapid response. It is believed that depressive psychosis may be due to abnormally high levels of cortisol and RU-486 normalizes it."

hghostinme replied: "Prosac or welbrutrin is a popular combo"

What is the best new medication for depression, social anxiety? I have taken seroquel, paxil, zoloft, prozac, risperadol, xanax, klonopin, remeron, wellbutrin, effexor..... None have really seemed to work. I'm thinking about trying valium or cymbalta because my anxiety makes my body tense up.

mary replied: "Mood stabilizers have been proven to be of more use. They worked for me. Don't take valium and those mind altering drugs. Mood stabilizers work to make you alert happy more normal than the mind altering drug. Welbrutrin is on of many, you need to take perhaps another one. Ask your doctor. Valiums and such are habit forming. If you are bi-polar a good one is abilify. Good luck, Mary"

countess almasy replied: "This is a very, VERY individual thing... no one has the exact same body chemistry as you, and noone can help you but a doctor. GO SEE ONE NOW."

aninvova replied: "The best of all medications for depressions, that was, is, and always will be is Jesus Christ. Don't laugh, it's serious. just believe in Jesus Christ. repent, ask Him to forgive you and save you. and then you can ask Him to fill your heart with Joy, Peace and Love. thanks for your time :) with God's Love"

Would I die if a drank alcohol and took my depression and anxiety meds? I'm on 60 mgs of paxil and 50 mgs of seroquel. I like to drink on special occasions and today is my sister's birthday. Do you think I'll get sick or even die if I took my meds tonight? I'm planning on drinking maybe 4 or 5 beers and I won't take my meds until maybe after 3 hours after I'm done drinking. Will I be ok? Thanks.

Samantha B replied: "no. I'm on anxiety meds and I've been fine. just don't drive or operate machinery;)"

Sydney replied: "I would be VERY careful when mixing prescription drugs and alcohol, YES it can make you very ill, and YES it can kill you. I wouldn't personally recommend drinking that many beers while on your meds, sorry. Unless you decide to not take the meds, don't drink alcohol. it could cost you your life."

phrozenwarrior replied: "Did you know that alcohol itself is an extremely potent depressant? You certainly don't want to feel more depressed! The use of alcohol and drugs can complicate the diagnosis and treatment of a depressive illness. Many depressive conditions are associated with the excessive use of alcohol and some drugs. Using drugs or alcohol can increase the risk of dangerous behaviors including suicide or cause complicated interactions with your prescribed medication. In sum, alcohol or drug use can reduce the effectiveness of your treatment, prolong your illness, and increase the risk of negative medication side effects."

Living Life and Loving Life replied: "You may want to research on webmd.com these warnings of taking medications with alcohol consumption. I don't think its a good idea but that that's just me. I am just extra careful when mixing two entirely different drugs, as alcohol is also a drug and how it affects one person may entirely do something different to another. Really, just be careful everything is such a choice..........................may be not always the best kind"

O'Ley and Willow replied: "It would not be a good idea to drink when you are taking meds for depression or anxiety. You can ask you doctor but I would advise against drinking. You don't have to drink to have a good time and you'll be able to remember what you did or said and not be embarrassed. If you haven't drank in a long time, it would only take a little beer to get you drunk. Don't ruin your life or health by drinking when you are on meds. Think of it this way: if you drink 4 or 5 beers, you may end up more depressed or have more anxiety attacks when you get sober. Pills and alcohol do not mix. You can see what it did to a lot of stars!"

Princess0717 replied: "Both of those are central nervous system depressants, so if you take alcohol it can further depress your cns.You go into respiratory depression, shock, or coma...so yes you could die."

I'm ADDICTED to my seroquel to help me sleep and ease my anxiety but my depression is getting out of hand.? its a small dose. My depression is out of controll.I have a strong feeling that something is horribly wrong.I'm having stonger thoughts of dying but would NEVER do it.I feel miserable. The anxiety feels so much better being at ease though.I'm so scared of meds.I feel as if i try one I might go even more crazy due to mest up docs giving me antidepresants with me being bipolar sending me off the wall after postpartum.

Maddie replied: "i wouldnt suggest doing this without the right support but stop taking meds?... i did it and beat my depression, a close friend of mine did it to he has bipolar.. its really really hard to do but if you have the right supports around yoou then it can be done! if you wanna know how i did it then feel free to email me!"

Kalibasa replied: "You need to talk to your psychiatrist, not us! But I can tell you my personal experience with Zyprexa, which is quite similar, was none too pleasant. Antipsychotic drugs should be prescribed only as a last resort- they have multiple side effects and can severely interfere with your ability to cope with day-to-day stresses. On Zyprexa I was sleeping over twelve hours a day; now, even though my circadian rhythms are haywire again and I go days without sleeping, I think I'm doing much better. I can cope, and I have my energy and humor back (the Zyprexa turned me into a zombie). Talk to your psychiatrist. Many bipolars genuinely need these kind of drugs, but again, it's not something to go on lightly."

Betty M replied: "It wouldn't hurt to make an appointment and discuss all this with your doctor. Then you need to really trust that they know what they are doing. The more you give thought to fear, the bigger it will get to the point of being out of control. Fear is something you can write about to get rid of these feelings and see the actual reality of everything. I think you would benefit from therapy and talking about what is really going on within you, and take responsibility for your own health care progress. Always listen to your body."

The Great Escape replied: "A work colleague of mine who is also an anxiety sufferer told me about the website anxiety-symptoms-relief-secrets.com I downloaded their free report a week ago and have put their recommendations into action. It has had a huge impact and has given me great relief from my symptoms without using drugs or medicines. Also, they don't try to sell you anything! I suggest you check it out. Good luck x"

Sunshine replied: "I don't agree with medication so I take naturapathic medicine at whole foods ignatia 30x and theonine everyday and have a companion pet and that doesn't have side effects just sleep and dream"

Christian replied: "This might help mentalhealthsolutions/anxiety"

libtih replied: "The problem is that pills don't cure anything, it gets rid of the symptoms but not the problem. You need to speak with a psychologist, if you went to a doctor it is very likely that they diagnosed you incorrectly and they are giving you an incorrect dosage of medication. A psychologist will come up with the best treatment option and will work on the anxiety and the depression. Treatment of anxiety has a very high success rate, as does depression when using behavioural methods. They provide a long term solution to the problem where medication provides a short term solution. Good Luck"

John B replied: "One thing to keep in mind is that different medications affect different people differently. What works for one, may not for another. Zyprexa has turned many into a zombie, but for me, it's a god's send. I need to caveat and say, I only take 2.5mg to 5mg and I only take it to get some sleep when major depression kicks in... after a few days my body starts to head in the right direction and I stop taking it. Taking higher doses for longer periods will up the chances of it causing problems. I just wanted to share my experience with it. Also, you're not going to go even more crazy. If anything, when you find the right treatment it will calm you down... I can sympathize with you. But I can also tell you that once you have that moment where you take a deep breath and you can just relax and repair, you'll know you can get there again (I've only been able to get that moment through medication though). :P I'd rather not take meds, but in my opinion, they're the lesser or two evils (between them and depression)."

Ernie replied: "This is your second post about this subject. I think you should call your doc and talk to him/her. It is generally best to start one medication at a time whenever possible so give it some time. Call the doc to be safe and set your mind at ease. Good luck Lilly!"

christina c replied: "it's not the seroquel giving you the problem it is the depression. you need to go in and talk to your doctor about the depression you are having and the thoughts of suicide so that you can get it under control. i suffer from schizophrenia, bipolar, post traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks ,severe anxiety, derealization, dissociation and depersonalization. i take the maximum amount of seroquel which is 800 mg. daily. it doesn't do much to help me sleep but it does help with the other problems that i have. seroquel is not habit forming. it is your depression talking telling you that it is. open dialogue with your psychiatrist ( i hope that you are seeing a psychiatrist and not a regular doctor or even a psychologist on this) can easily remedy what you are going through by changing your meds by adding to, taking away or changing dosage amount. it took me three psychiatrist to finally get me on the right meds in the right dosages at the right time of day and night to finally get me under some kind of control over my illnesses. you need to take charge of your own illnesses and ask questions, demand answers if necessary and help your doctor to help you in your treatment plan. if you don't talk to your doctor he/she will assume that every thing is going okay with you. I wish the best in handling and over coming to some degree your illnesses."

Janet replied: "I understand. I took prozac and it made me think the cops were going to come into my house and take my cats away from me! O.o I'm bipolar too! But the thing is... while seroquel helps me with my mania (which is totally manifested through like, delusional paranoia/anxiety) I take a mild antidepressant (zoloft) at a low dose with seroquel to keep me from hitting the really intense lows. But I've always had really super intense lows. Don't listen to these crazy guys talking about going off of meds! They're OBVIOUSLY not bipolar! Talk about craziness! Us bipolars off of meds might as well give up on functioning as normal adults in society. >.> Just, what you need to do is see a psychiatrist regularly, and don't be scared to give them a call and let them know what's going on ALL THE TIME! If you feel like you're starting to go manic, dude, give them a RING! Be like DOC! Dude! I am paying you good money! These meds are NOT making me feel okay! You need to work me in as soon as you can! What should I do right now. and just tell them straight up what is going on. I actually straight up left a message on my doc's machine saying "I think that the cops are going to break down my front door and confiscate my cats. Oh, and the walls are breathing. I think this prozac isn't working out." Heh. Man, you have GOT to let them know how bad it is. Don't be scared of drugs because you had a bad experience. Just make sure your doctor knows what has happened. Straight up refuse to take any antidepressants by themselves. But mild low doses of antidepressants combined with antipsychotics can be okay with us bipolars sometimes to even out the moods."

What are the best drugs for anxiety and depression? currently im on lamictal, effexor, and seroquel. whats better? :note i'll be staying on lamictal for it's other reasons, but what about the other 2 drugs thankyou

efxdc x replied: "Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc. Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level. But there are natural ways to do it without medication. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc. The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced... you have that "learned behavior" in your mind. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction... There are several other techniques to help cope them! Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to.... Extracted from Source."

ragamuffinmillie replied: "There are a lot of different answers to this question, because some drugs don't work for particular people (like you wanting to stop the lamictal). Usually, an SSRI helps with the depression (citalopram and fluoxetine are the most commonly prescribed because they have the least side effects) - these help you to make the most of the serotonin in your body which keeps you "happier", so they help you without adding any mind altering chemicals to your body, and if you have anxiety attacks (racing heart, palpitations etc) you could take a beta blocker like propranolol which can help to regulate and slow your heart beat. If you need mild sedation there are also separate drugs used which can calm you down in the short term, but doctors do not like to prescibe these unless necessary as they tend to be addictive after a month or so of regular use. It's worth pointing out that Effexor is very good at dealing with both depression and anxiety, and that if you have no side effects its worth sticking with for at least 6 weeks to give it time to kick in. For more information and advice the best website I have found it nomorepanic.co.uk, this site has helped me a lot. Make sure you talk this over with your doctor."

Is anyone taking depression/anxiety medication? If so, what has/hasn't worked for you? I have tried Lexapro (which worked at first), Seroquel (which made me obnoxiously sleepy), and Risperidol (which made me act drunk). I need a medication that will correct my terrible anxiety and depression WITHOUT making me feel strange. Mostly, I get anxiety when it comes to my boyfriend and money. Any suggestions you have (I am also interested in do-it-yourself ideas) would be greatly appreciated.

dcno02 replied: "I have taken all of the SSRIs during the last 10 years. There is no way to know in advance which one or which combination will work for you. You just have to try them one-by-one until you find the one that works. However, see this: Good luck! Be patient!!"

kilukalasin replied: "First I was on fluoxetine and switched because of the side effects. For a while I was on citalopram, nortriptyline for insomnia, then when those stopped working so much I switched to effexor with seroquel for insomnia. The citalopram and effexor both have/had very few side effects for me."

Silverbird replied: "hmmmm nah i'm too stubborn to ask my parents for depression medication...pills wouldn't solve anything anyways, im anti-social by pure stubborn choice. the best way to get rid of your depression is trying to solve your problems with money/BF's, even if only temporarally. if not then...ummm go light a candle and just sit there and stare at the flame......."

○ Mer De Noms ○ replied: "I was on zoloft, prozac and another i forget the name of. Meds turned me into a lifeless zombie. Sure i wasnt suicidle....but it flatlined all my emotions. I felt like i didnt have a soul. sooooo i stopped all meds ( the right way, bit by bit) and decided that i was strong enough to conquer it. Because off the meds, even though it was once in a while, i had a glimmer of happiness, i felt an emotion....alot better than feeling nothing at all. I seriously do not recommend meds, they Fark you up. I got through major depression and anxiety....its not easy but so fkn worth it mate. Best luck for ya Jessi"

lil bit replied: "Abifiy has worked the best for me for depression and OCD. Klonopin helps me some with anxiety; but makes me feel dull-minded so I may ask if I can try Lexapro. Abilify has been the best yet"

What kinds of meds are you on for anxiety and depression and do you find they help? I'm on Seroquel, Remeron, Zoloft, Clonazapam and Trizadone.

phil replied: "im on cymbalta and clonazapam for anxiety and deppression and they are working for me"

Sherrie replied: "I am on Prozzac for severe PMS causing depression and anxiety. I found it has helped immensly, I am not freaking out at everyone and can actually be by myself without thinking that no one likes me."

a_delphic_oracle replied: "I used to be on Paxil and Wellbutrin, Valium, Lortab, Fioricet, Celebrex and Inderal. Yes all at the same time. After I started having seizures I weaned myself off all of it and now I feel better than I have felt since I was 8 years old."

mickey replied: "I take effexor xr paxil and clonazapam. They help me most of the time."

sayomee replied: "hey my bro is on olanzapine 10, amitripytine and divalproex.. is this normal?"

miami*87 replied: "i'm on lexapro. it's not really helping that much"

littlebit449 replied: "I'm on Zoloft & it works for my depression. But I had to do some shopping around with meds to find the right one."

Jewishkitten replied: "I take Cymbalta, Ativan and Trazadone and they have literally been life savers. I had to try a LOT of meds to get here though."

Julie replied: "I am on 80mgs of Prozac, 500mgs of Seroquel, 375mgs of Effexor, 350mgs of Trazodone, and .25mgs of Xanax as needed (usually take 1 or 2 a day, or 3 at most) I've been on this combination for about 2 years now... it has helped a bit, but not much. I take them for Major Depression that's recurrant and severe, borderline personality disorder, DDNOS, generalized anxiety disorder and ptsd."
